Psalm 27:1-7
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold[a] of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When evildoers assail me
to devour my flesh—
my adversaries and foes—
they shall stumble and fall.
3 Though an army encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
though war rise up against me,
yet I will be confident.
4 One thing I asked of the Lord,
that will I seek after:
to live in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord,
and to inquire in his temple.
5 For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his
tent;
he will set me high on a rock.
6 Now my head is lifted up
above my enemies all around me,
and I will offer in his tent
sacrifices with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make melody to the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud,
be gracious to me and answer me!

During these tumultuous times we are living in, this Psalm calms my soul and reminds me that my true strength and salvation lie in God.
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?
Life can be overwhelming for all of us. We try to prepare, plan and control as much of our lives as we can, but inevitably we are all faced with circumstances beyond our control. Sometimes what worries us is an illness, sometimes it is a family member’s problems, sometimes it is a circumstance in the world that causes us grief and sadness. To be sure, we can and should make a positive difference in the world, but we cannot fix these problems on our own. Often, we get frustrated and overwhelmed because we forget that we are not God but rather imperfect human beings who do not have all the answers.
It helps me to remember that it is not all up to me alone to solve problems. We can all rely on God to walk beside us, to light our path and to be with us every step of the way…sharing the joys and the sorrows of life and giving us strength to move forward and to be better people.
Especially during the difficult days, if we open ourselves to trust the power of God’s love at work in our lives, we can be freer and fuller people as we help each other along the journey.
Prayer:
Dear God,
Deepen our trust in you even as your love empowers us to care for each other. Help us to feel your presence strengthening us and supporting us in both difficult and joyful times.
