Don't forget to bring in items for our monthly Collection
Sunday Dec 4!

Adult Wassail & Decorating Party

When: Friday, Dec 2 at 7:pm

Where:  Samuel Church

Instead of playing games this month, we will have a Wassail and Decorating Party just like we did last year.
Join us for an evening of fun, fellowship, a bit of decorating, sipping on Wassail, Mulled Wine, and perhaps challenging your friends to your favorite game of dominoes, checkers, backgammon, bridge, or hearts---choose your poison!  Come prepared to have a fun and enjoy your Samuel friends!  Bring someone you'd like to get  to know the amazing folk of Samuel.  We'll gather for fellowship and decorate the church in short order at 7:00pm and then get on with the games and festivities.  Bring an appetizer or dessert to share - or just yourself.   We'll have some games but if there is one in particular you are interested in playing please bring that too.  Hope to see you there!!!  HO, HO, HO!!!

Saturday, Dec 3 at 9am

Join us on Sat Dec 3 for a fun morning of leaf raking!  We will be making the grounds a great place to celebrate Advent and Christmas.  Please bring your rakes, gloves, hats, and scarves to keep you warm as you work.  Sign up on the Connections Clipboard.

Saturday Dec 3 at 10am

Last year, we gathered together to make ornaments to decorate the Sanctuary for Advent and Christmas.  This year, we are doing it again.  Our theme for the Advent season this year is Snowflakes. We'll be making several kinds of ornaments to decorate the tree.  Children from 1 to 92 are welcome to bring to bring their families to this fun event!

Youth Night at the Movies:
Friday, Dec 9

Bring a friend and come with us to watch "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" with your Samuel Family.  Details on exact timing, transportation, costs for the movie and food on our own, and if we plan to eat before/after are to be determined.  For more information, please call the Church office

A Christmas Cantata Sun. Dec 11 at 10am

Music composed and adapted by Lloyd Larson

Come and hear the Good News as the Samuel Choir presents the Christmas Story in song.  With familiar hymns and new songs incorporated into this work, there is something for everyone.  We hope to see you there!

Adopt a Family Gifts due by Dec 9

Samuel Church has a tradition of sharing our blessings with persons who can use our help during the Christmas season.  This year, Webster - Rock Hill Ministries has provided gift suggestions for two families served by their
organization.  Gifts for ten individuals plus two Christmas food baskets are needed.

All gifts and food baskest must be delivered to Samuel by Dec 9.

Additional information and a sign-up sheet will be available in the Ziercher Room on Sunday after worship.  For more information, please contact Guangyu Lou.

Annual Mitten Tree Collection!

As the weather turns colder and the wind begins to blow, please take a moment to think of those who don't have enough clothing to protect them from winter's chill.

You are invited to decorate the Mitten tree in the narthex with mittens, hats, scarves, socks, and gloves to be shared with children served through the food pantry at Pilgrim United Church of Christ.

Women's Out to Lunch

When:   Wed, Dec 14
              11:30am

Where:  Call the church office

This year Carolyn has graciously decided to host the annual Christmas Ladies' luncheon.  Please mark your calendars and sign up to attend!

Offering Received on Sun, Dec 18

The Christmas Fund (formerly Veterans of the Cross) of the United Church of Christ is a way for you to assist the growing number of retirees whose low-income annuities make it difficult to meet increasing living costs.  This ministry cares for the active and retired clergy and lay employees of the United Church of Christ by providing for the Supplementation of Small Annuities, Supplementation of Health Premiums, Emergency Grants, and provide Christmas “Thank You” Gift Checks next December to low-income retirees.  Your generosity is appreaciated.

Annual Christmas Offering:
         Received Dec 24 and 25

Our annual Christmas offering will again benefit Emmaus Homes and Every Child's Hope.  Both organizations have worked tirelessly to support children and those with developmental delays.  Your generosity helps them to keep serving these groups in the St. Louis area.

2016 Ministry Team Reports Due Jan 15

The end of the year is approaching quickly and that means it's time for the Samuel to start assembling the Annual Report.  If you are a Ministry Team Lead, please begin putting your report together for 2016.  Although the date for the Annual Meeting is not set, we'll need time to merge all of the reports and to create copies.

Please email your reports to Anna at secretary@samuelucc.org by Jan 15.  If you have any questions about the reports, please contact a member of the Consistory.

News:

Peppermint scented play-dough, glitter and glue, and snow in our sensory tables will fill our mornings this month. Nature on the Move, a program sponsored by our Parent Association, brings us Getting Ready for Winter. We’ll hear about how animals prepare for the cold months ahead here, or by migrating, or hibernating.
Each class will make special holiday gifts for parents this month. Santa and Mrs. Claus are stopping by for a special visit and the preschool children hope to sing for them again this year. Learning happens everyday through play and teacher supported activities!
