What We Believe

The Mission Statement of Samuel Church

Samuel Church, gathered by Grace,
Nourished by the Word,
and renewed by the Holy Spirit,
is a welcoming, caring community of faith.

In response to the gift of grace, and in affirmation of the inclusive love of Christ, we welcome all persons into our fellowship. We seek to be a congregation that includes persons of any race, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, faith understanding, mental and physical ability, and socio-economic background. We welcome all to share fully in the life and leadership, ministry and fellowship, worship, rites and sacraments, responsibilities and blessings, of the community called Samuel Church.

Because faith can be expressed in many different ways, as a congregation of the United Church of Christ, we have no rigid formulation of doctrine or attachment to creeds and do not require any “tests” of faith for membership.  We believe in God’s continuing testament, which means that we try to remain open and attentive to the ways that God is still speaking in the world today.  We are people of extravagant welcome, who seek to extend God’s love to all who walk through our doors. We believe that each person is unique and valued by God and that each of us is on a spiritual journey. In response to God’s grace, we believe we are called to be servants in the service of others, witnesses to God’s justice and love, and good stewards of the earth’s resources. As a congregation in the UCC, love and unity in the midst of our diversity are our greatest assets.
